1. Obtain the NEK Datasheet

To apply for a Hungarian Student ID Card, you first need to obtain a NEK datasheet.

  • Visit a Government Office (Kormányablak/Kormányhivatal) and have your photo and signature recorded.
  • When completing the NEK datasheet, make sure that your place of birth is entered correctly.
  • Please note that passports, especially those issued abroad, may list the country rather than the specific city or town as the place of birth. However, the NEK application requires the exact place of birth.
  • The place of birth entered on the NEK datasheet must exactly match the information registered in the Neptun system. If the information does not match, your Student ID Card application may be rejected.
  • After completing the process, you will receive a NEK datasheet containing your NEK identifier. You will need this identifier for your Student ID Card application.

2. Submit the Application in Neptun

  • Log in to Neptun.
  • Go to Administration → Student Card request and click “Add new.”
  • Enter your NEK identifier without dashes or slashes.
  • Select the appropriate demand type, such as “first application,” “lost,” or “due to data change.”
  • International students should make sure that their permanent home address is up to date in Neptun.

3. Check Your Personal Data

Before submitting your application, carefully check that all personal information registered in Neptun matches your identification documents.

In particular, check your:

  • full name;
  • date and place of birth;
  • permanent address;
  • other personal details required for the Student ID Card application.

If any information is incorrect, contact the relevant Study Office/Student Administration before submitting your application.

4. Submit the Application

  • Once all information has been checked, click “Save” to submit your application.
  • You may also be required to upload the NEK datasheet as a PDF in Neptun. If requested, go to Information → Documents → Upload document and upload the document.

5. Temporary Student ID Card

If you need proof of your student status while waiting for your permanent Student ID Card, you can request a temporary student ID card from the Study Office.

  • The temporary card is valid for 60 days.
  • It can usually be requested a few days after your NEK data has been entered into Neptun.

6. Receiving Your Student ID Card

Your permanent Student ID Card will be produced and delivered to the university.

You will be notified via Neptun or email when your card is ready for collection. Please follow the instructions provided in the notification to collect your card.

Important Information

  • The Student ID Card application is free of charge. A fee may apply if the card is lost and a replacement is required.
  • Make sure that all personal information in Neptun matches your official identification documents before submitting your application.
  • If you notice any discrepancies, contact the Study Office/Student Administration and have the information corrected before applying.
  • Keep your NEK datasheet after receiving it, as you may need it during the application process.
