How to Apply for a Tax Card

Step 1

Complete the T34 form online at home. You can download the form and the information sheet with instructions on how to complete it from here: https://nav.gov.hu/en/taxation/taxpayer_registration/general-information-for-foreign-citizens-new

Please note that the Hungarian version of the T34 form must be used.

After completing the form, print it out.

Step 2

Please bring the completed T34 form to the National Tax and Customs Administration (Nemzeti Adó- és Vámhivatal – NAV).

NAV issues the Tax Identification Number and the Tax Card. You can submit the form in person at a NAV office. Your Tax Identification Number will be issued on the spot.

Please note that the first application for a Tax Card is free of charge.

Step 3

You will need to register your Tax Identification Number in the Neptun system.

You will receive your physical Tax Card by post at a later date.

Notifying the Tax Authority of Changes

In the case of private individuals, the data recorded by the tax administration includes the information shown on the address cards issued by the relevant authorities.

Taxpayers are required, using form T34, to provide the Hungarian tax administration with the information shown on their residence permit issued by the immigration authority.

Taxpayers may also provide a mailing address on the T34 form in order to facilitate communication with the tax administration. Private individual taxpayers who do not regularly engage in economic activities are not required to provide a mailing address. Therefore, no default penalty may be imposed if they fail to notify the tax authority of a change in their mailing address.

For any legal consequences related to the delivery of official documents, if no permanent address is known, the mailing address provided by the taxpayer will be used.

Please remember that notifying the tax administration of any change in your address is in your best interest.
