The English-language programmes at the University of Sopron are seeing more interest than ever before. For the upcoming 2026/27 academic year, the number of students applying through the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme has nearly doubled compared to last year. If we look back over the past five years, the number of applicants has actually grown to more than four times its original size - a fantastic confirmation that our international strategy is truly working.
This surge is a major milestone for the University of Sopron. According to the latest statistics, the university received a total of 1,781 applications (counting both first and second place preferences) through the scholarship system for the 2026/27 cycle. That is a massive 81% jump from last year’s 983. Looking at the long-term trend, the results are even more impressive: interest has increased to nearly five times (4.7 times) the 2020/21 academic year.
Our doors are open to the world, and this is clearly reflected in our latest data: students from 71 different countries applied to study with us this year. This diversity doesn't just make our campus life more vibrant; it also helps put the University of Sopron on the map globally and helps us build a truly international professional network.
While all of our faculties are active on the international stage, the Alexandre Lámfalussy Faculty of Economics remains the biggest draw, with nearly 1,000 students choosing their programmes.
